The Challenge

The children in our town are experiencing more mental health challenges than ever before. As an example, CAMHS referrals in our borough have doubled since the onset of COVID*. At the same time, funding for mental health support in schools has failed to keep pace with increased demand.

Schools are calling out the challenge of dealing with increased levels of anxiety, depression, self-harm, school avoidance and low self-esteem.

This has significant implications:

o   Teachers overwhelmed at the front line

o   GPs under pressure to provide diagnosis and referrals

o   CAMHS and other mental health services at breaking point

o   Children’s future pathways severely impacted
